Bill is a 1971 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. After serving in the United States Air Force, he moved to Dubuque in 1973, worked first with a group practice, and then opened his general practice in 1979.
Because dentistry is continuously evolving and introducing new and exciting options, Bill is a continuous student. He focuses his ongoing education with hands-on courses for studying the latest in dental materials and technology in cosmetic dentistry, occlusion and bite relationships, TMJ therapy and dental implants. His goal is to stay on the leading edge of all that dentistry can offer, but not use new techniques that have not yet been well proven. He strongly believes that life-long learning is essential to allow him to treat patients ethically and exceptionally.
Bill is most concerned about learning what the people coming to him want for themselves. He sees that his first goal is to listen and then to understand each individual's concerns and desires for their mouth. Once he has a grasp of that and an understanding of their current dental condition, he can share his expertise regarding the best options for helping attain those mutual goals together. Bill often frames his recommendations for clients in this perspective: "If you were my mother (or brother, sister, etc.) this is what I would want for you..."
Bill shares his passion for dentistry with his wife, Sharon, a dental hygienist. They have practiced together and shared their commitment to serving others for over 30 years. When not studying or practicing dentistry Bill can be found reading, golfing, playing bridge, or enjoying the outdoors - especially canoeing in the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota. Bill has also been involved in a variety of Dubuque civic and professional organizations and is currently serving as President of his church's governing council.
The Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education
Bill is the only dentist in Dubuque to have completed the entire Continuum at the renowned Pankey Institute. The Institute is a non-commercial organization and is representative of Bill’s beliefs in the value of learning and commitment to excellence. The mission statement of the Pankey Institute reads in part:
"To improve the health and well-being of the world's citizens by helping dentists achieve
professional excellence and fulfillment....We will do our utmost to be the best at what we do and
remain the world's most prestigious learning organization for dentists...."
Bill continues with the Pankey Institute as a member of the L. D. Pankey Alumni Association.
The Academy of General Dentistry
Bill has received the Academy of General Dentistry’s Fellowship Award in recognition of having completed over 500 hours of study in a wide variety of dental areas. He has served on the Academy’s national Board of Trustees for three terms and as a Spokesperson for The Academy for over 15 years. He continues to be active locally with the Iowa Academy of General Dentistry, promoting, providing, and attending continuing education for general dentists.
The American College of Dentistry
By his peers, Bill was named a Fellow in the American College of Dentistry for promoting excellence, ethics, professionalism and leadership in the profession of dentistry.
The American Dental Association
As a member of the ADA, Bill has served in a variety of roles at the local, district and state levels through the Dubuque County, Dubuque District, and Iowa Dental Association.
Meet Our Dental Hygienists
Our team of dental hygienists is committed to providing the highest standard of dental hygiene care for you. Their care involves not only superb clinical skills, but also the behavioral and communication skills to assist you in attaining the highest level of dental health you choose. Ongoing continuing education in consumer dental products, nutrition, and total wellness prepares Sharon and Jennifer to be knowledgeable resources to help you with your oral health as it relates to your total health.
Sharon
Sharon is a graduate of the University of Hawaii and brings over 30 years of experience in dentistry to our team. She has worked in a variety of practice settings that include serving as a consultant for Head Start and working in hospital dentistry. As an active member of her professional association she has served at the local, state and district levels and was named Dental Hygienist of the Year by the state association.

Melissa
Melissa grew up in Saginaw, Michigan and graduated with honors from Delta Community College in 2009 with a dual degree in dental hygiene and business management. She recently moved to the Dubuque area, and we welcome her to our team as we begin 2010. Melissa enjoys traveling, playing volleyball, snowboarding, and spending time with her friends and family.

Rhonda
Rhonda grew up in Dubuque, moved away for several years, and is happy to be back. She has been on The Kuttler Dental Team since 2002. Rhonda has completed courses of study in dental assisting to be both registered and certified.

Alysia
Alysia was born and raised in Dubuque. She loves dining out and relaxing on the river. She completed the NICC dental assisting program in 2003, worked in a general dental practice for a couple of years as a registered dental assistant, then returned to school to get her degree in elementary education. However, Alysia missed working in dentistry -- and to our great delight walked through our door in early 2007 to join our team. Her experience both in dentistry and early childhood development is a great asset to our team.

Bonnie
Bonnie was our special Valentine, beginning her work with us on that holiday 2005. She brought fourteen years of dental experience to her role of client care coordinator in our business office. Bonnie graduated from the dental assisting program at Northeast Iowa Community College and is a registered and certified dental assistant.
